The Geothermal Program
The University of Auckland is an international leader in geothermal. Due to the tremendous work of the University’s former Geothermal Institute, The University of Auckland plays a significant role in geothermal research, education and training for the world geothermal community. Graduates from The University of Auckland’s programs are scattered across the world, many being senior decision-makers in company positions.
The University is committed to supporting the geothermal industry by providing industry relevant research and training in partnership with companies and by providing trained graduates to the market. To do this, the University has built research and instructional capability across the geothermal board in these interrelated areas:

Recognizing the vital importance of geothermal energy, the University now has geothermal expertise embedded within three distinct Units; the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Science, and the Institute of Earth Science and Engineering; together they comprise the Geothermal Program. This approach ensures excellence in geothermal education and research across a range of disciplines and enables leading edge research to underpin the University’s training curriculum. The University of Auckland provides geothermal instruction at undergraduate and graduate levels and offers training opportunities to busy professionals through Short Courses and continuing education.
