IESE management and team structure

IESE is organised into three research and development groups: geophysics, geology, hazards. These groups are supported by the field and systems engineers, administration staff and postgraduate students.

Professor Peter Malin - Director

Peter has an extensive background in borehole seismology and geophysics. He is a world expert on borehole instrumentation and has over 25 years experience installing borehole networks. His instruments have been used worldwide from geothermal fields in Iceland to the Californian San Andreas fault. Email: p.malin@auckland.ac.nz

Gary Putt - Director Business Development

Gary is a member of the senior management team at Auckland UniServices Ltd. His role involves building international research relationships and programmes in science and engineering, with a particular focus on energy and earth sciences. Email: gary.putt@auckland.ac.nz

Marcos Alvarez - Commercial Operations Manager

Marcos is responsible for contracted project operations. He has over 20 years experience in seismology with a background in mechanical engineering and geophysics. Marcos has also led numerous training courses around the world in practical seismology. Email: m.alvarez@auckland.ac.nz

Dr Eylon Shalev - Associate Director

Eylon specialises in seismic tomography, signal processing and borehole instrumentation. Most recently, Eylon has worked on interpreting seismic data from volcanoes in the Caribbean and geothermal fields in the USA, Australia and New Zealand. Email: e.shalev@auckland.ac.nz
